In the last decade, the dynamics of foreign trade of Belarus is characterized by the fast growth of trade turnover and services. This is caused by high rates of economic growth, increase of scientific and technical and transit potential, participation in integration processes within the CIS framework and also a diversification of trade and economic relations with other regions of the world.

Today Belarus has trade relations with more than 180 countries around the world. Russian Federation is the major trade partner of the Republic of Belarus, it accounts for more than 40 percent of export and more than a half of volume of import. The European Union is the second largest trade partner of the Republic of Belarus, it accounts more than 30 percent of export and one fifth of import. The main partner in the EU are Greate Britain, Netherlands, Germany, Lithuania, Italy, Poland, Latvia, Belgium, Czech Republic. In the foreign trade of Belarus with the CIS countries after Russia, Ukraine occupies the second place, Kazakhstan – the third.

There is a positive dynamic in cooperation with the traditional partners in Latin America such as Brazil, Venezuela and Ecuador, and in Asia, notably with China, India, Indonesia and Turkey.

The main branches of industry produce tractors and trucks, earth movers for use in construction and mining, metal-cutting machine tools, agricultural equipment, motorcycles, chemicals, fertilizer, textiles, and consumer goods.

Peat, the country's most valuable mineral resource, is used for fuel and fertilizer and in the chemical industry. Belarus also has deposits of clay, sand, chalk, dolomite, phosphorite, and rock and potassium salt. Forests cover about a third of the land, and lumbering is an important sector.

The Republic of Belarus is a country located in Eastern Europe, bordered by Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Lithuania and Latvia. The country has trade links with more than 170 countries all over the world and aims to develop relations with countries in regions like Middle East, Asia and Latin America.

 

Export Requirements:

The Republic of Belarus implements a multi-vector foreign trade policy, supports trade contacts with foreign countries, actively participates in international integration processes. The country has been working towards entry to the World Trade Organisation since 1993 and much work has been done to reduce tariffs and other barriers to international trade. Belarus customs govern import and export regulations.

Import Requirements:

Customs Duties and Taxes on Imports range between 0 and 10% ad valorem. The highest tariff of 100% is applied on alcohol. 

Belarus provides tariff preferences to developing and least developed countries in form of reduction of the customs duties rates by 25 and 100 percent accordingly.

The Republic of Belarus traditionally implements a multi-vector foreign trade policy, supports trade contacts with foreign countries, actively participates in international integration processes.

Major events that significantly affect the conditions of export activities are Belarus' participation in the Customs Union with Russia and Kazakhstan, the build-up of a unified economic zone and forthcoming accession to the WTO.

Exporting a standard container of goods requires 8 documents, takes 15 days and costs $1460. Importing the same container of goods requires 10 documents, takes 30 days and costs $2265.
