Nettops are also called miniature PCs, Mini PCs or Smart Micro PCs. They are very small form factors, inexpensive, low-power legacy free desktop computers designed for basic tasks such as Internet surfing, accessing web-based applications, document processing, and audio/video playback.

If you intend to buy a nettop, choose Export Portal with its wide choice of models and brands presented.

Nettops are not only smaller and cheaper than ordinary computers, but they also consume much less power, that's why nettops require significantly less cooling and may even be completely fanless. Some do not have an optical disk drive and use a solid state disk, making them completely silent. The hardware specifications and processing power are usually reduced and therefore make nettops less appropriate for running complex or resource-intensive applications.

Some nettops are designed to have stylish cases or run Windows operating systems in order to come to the needs of the most of users. Others are designed more towards business and experienced computer users. These models typically run a version of Linux to allow better customization and cut costs.

Computers that are designed and marketed as nettops are presented by many brands and manufacturers. It is important to make a good choice when shop for nettops.

There are three platforms that are primarily intended for nettops and netbooks: Intel's Centrino Atom platform, Nvidia's Ion platform and VIA's Trinity Platform. Some nettops have also adopted system-on-a-chip designs. Although many major parts such as chipsets, video cards and storage devices can also be found on desktops, the CPUs that are put inside nettops are the fundamental component that differentiate them from normal desktops.

Nettops fall into Intel's category of "Basic PC", which usually are cheap computers. Intel describes nettops as a large potential market. Nettops can serve as an affordable first computer for people in developing countries, or as an environmentally friendly choice as a secondary computer.

Tariffs

Japan has one of the lowest customs tariffs in the world, which is equal to 2%. The country uses the Harmonised System and most import taxes are ad valorem on the cost, insurance and freight (CIF) value of goods. The importer will also have to pay a consumption tax of 8% for some products, and additional taxes are applied to liquors and tobacco.

Product certification, labelling and packaging

Importers do not need an import licence for a large number of goods. However, licences are required for some products such as hazardous materials, animals, plants, perishables and articles of high value. Animals and plants require health certificates, while frozen fruit and vegetables must have a certificate of condition. The import of food products also requires a food import permit issued by the Ministry of Health and Welfare. Beverages containing alcohol may require a certificate of age.

There are certain restricted goods such as certain agricultural and meat products, endangered species, ivory, animal parts and fur banned internationally.

Labelling

Labels are required for textiles, electrical appliances, plastic products, miscellaneous household and consumer goods. Food products must have a sticker attached to each package having a detailed description of contents on it, including artificial colorings, name and address of importer and date of import or manufacture in Japanese. In addition, all imported products and shipping documents must be market in metric weights and measures.

Straw packing is not permitted.
