Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is an island country situated in the Lesser Antilles archipelago in the Caribbean Sea. Its nearest neighbours are Barbados, St. Lucia and Grenada. Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is a member of the African, Caribbean, and Pacific Group of States, Caribbean Community and Common Market (Caricom), Organization of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), World Trade Organization and other international organizations.

 

Tariffs

Customs value is based on the cost, insurance, freight value of the products, including all other foreign costs. 

There is a 4% customs service charge which is applied on the c.i.f. value of imports (products coming from other CARICOM countries are not exempt). A value-added tax of 15% is applied on services and goods, including imports. VAT on imports is levied on the c.i.f. value plus customs duties and all other duties and charges payable upon importation. 

There are also excise taxes imposed on the following products:

  • Alcoholic beverages
  • Tobacco products
  • Petroleum oils and gases
  • Used tires
  • Motor vehicles for transport of persons and goods
  • Non-alcoholic beverages
  • Water
  • Bulbs-incandescent

 

Product certificates ans licences

A licence is required in the following cases:

  • to import curry powder, wheat flour, margarine, pasta products, aerated beverages, beer, stout, oxygen, carbon dioxide, acetylene, candles, toilet paper, paper bags, solar water heaters, chairs and other seats of wood and upholstered fabric, other furniture of wood and upholstered fabric - if the goods originate from any country outside the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States and Belize

 

  • to import goods such as live poultry; meat of bovine animals, sheep, goat and swine fresh, chilled or frozen; ther meat and edible offals, fresh chilled or frozen; frozen fish; milk and cream not concentrated nor containing, added sugar or other sweetening matter; natural honey; part of trees and other plants suitable for use as, Christmas trees; tomatoes, onions, cabbage, carrots, sweet pepper, okra, pumpkin; coconut, brazil nuts and cashew nuts, fresh or dried, whether or not shelled or peeled; bananas, including plantains fresh or dried; pineapples, avocados, guavas, mangoes and mangosteens, fresh or dried; peppers, dried, crushed or ground; cinnamon, cloves, rice, starches etc. - if the goods originate from any country outside the Community.
