Afzelia species are used primarily for wood, though some species also have medicinal uses. The timber is most commonly traded under the collective name "doussie", as well as under name "afzelia". One of the common names is also "pod mahogany", adding to the confusion surrounding the name mahogany.The final product is used to produce high quality exterior and interior joinery, flooring, doors and boat building. There is a great demand in Southern and Eastern parts of Asia for this type of timber. It is used for production in what can be described as a thriving furniture industry.
